Doodle grooming in Fairport covers goldendoodles, labradoodles, bernedoodles and other poodle mixes, plus poodles themselves. Their curly or wavy coats keep growing and don't shed much, so the loose hair stays in the coat and tangles.
The Matting Problem
Mats commonly develop behind the ears and under the legs, according to the American Kennel Club, and detangling keeps coats from becoming matted and causing painful pulling on the skin. A doodle that's only brushed on top can look fluffy and still be matted underneath.
Brushing at Home
- Long and curly coats need daily attention, the ASPCA says.
- Brush in sections, all the way down to the skin, then run a comb through. If the comb catches, keep going there.
- Pay attention to ears, armpits, the collar line and the backs of the legs.
Keeping the Coat Long
If you want a longer, fluffy cut, book on a regular schedule and keep up the brushing. If mats get ahead of you, the groomer may need to clip the coat short so it can grow back healthy. Tell them how the coat looks when you call.
